Infant Tour to Tullyboy Farm
Junior and Senior Infants greatly enjoyed a trip to Tullyboy Farm, while the sun shone down on the fun. The day begin with the bus arriving at the gate waiting for the excited infants to embark upon the short journey to Tullyboy.
Upon arriving in Tullyboy, the students and teachers were greeted by Matt the Farmer. Firstly, the children met the horses and sheep which were grazing on the front lawn, followed by a bumpy trip on the tractor and trailer to view the surrounding farm and its inhabitants, including a pair of very unusual Highland Cattle. Upon return to the farm, the children were brought to the old style cottage where they examined some artefacts, including having a dance to some music played on the gramophone.
On exiting the farm cottage, the children could hear the sound of animals eagerly awaiting the arrival of the farmyard guests. When the children entered the shed, it was clear what had been causing the bleeting and crowing as a cacophony of sound by the deer, goats, lambs, chickens, pigs and puppies erupted. The children had an opportunity to watch Matt the Farmer milk the goat and feed the pig, who was suckling her 8 piglets. Our students enjoyed the experience of bottle feeding the lambs and petting the animals.
Following the petting experience, the children were brought on a train ride, which they greatly enjoyed. By this stage the little farmers and farmerette had worked up quite an appetite and enjoyed a lovely hot lunch in Matt’s kitchen. The final part of the day saw a time for playing in the playground before the bus rolled up right on time to return the children to Boyle Parochial School. They just had enough time to regale their experience to the older children before home time.
A great day was had by both students and teachers. It is fair to say we have some wonderful farming and animal caring prospects in the Parochial School.
