Visit to Turlough House
In March, the students and teachers headed off for what was a wonderful day in Turlough House, Co. Mayo, which is home to the National Gallery of Ireland: Museum of Irish Country Life.
The younger students enjoyed an interactive story experience in the museum, learning about the items which would have been used to make bread in the past. They followed the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’ and experienced holding some artefacts in their hands and learning about how they work.
The older students, learned about the tradition of Easter Eggs and decorated their own eggs.
After some lunch, the children took part in an ‘Artefact trail’ in the museum, where they had good opportunity to examine the artfects on display. They also looked inside Turlough House itself and stood in the library and drawing rooms.
The construction of a beautiful playground looks to be in full swing and perhaps some of our students might get back with their families over the summer months and try it out. This was a great day out to tie up our learning in Term 2.
