School News Update

December’s Ecumenical Carol Service, which took place in our parish church, marked the end of a very busy new school term.  The children’s heart warming presentation of “A Little Babe was Born” brought festive cheer to the whole congregation.

December was indeed a busy month.  Autumn G.A.A skills-training concluded with a trip to The Dome for the Senior Room children,  where they participated in intensive station-training with approximately 300 other students from North Roscommon schools.  Unfortunately The Dome recently fell victim to Storm Éowyn.  We send our best wishes to those involved in restoring it.

Of course we are all aware of the role that Climate Change plays in our weather patterns.  To that end the Senior Room children completed their Carbon Capture STEM project in October with a field trip to Tommy’s bog at Lough Allen.

2nd- 6th class children attended a performance of A Christmas Carol at Roscommon Arts Centre.  We were treated to a fantastic piece of work performed by the Livin’ Dred Theatre Company.

All children participated in the Christmas Cards for Nursing Homes initiative, organised by the Community Policing Unit of Boyle Garda Station.  The children made a special effort to bring joy to the elderly in our community by producing beautifully crafted Christmas cards with greetings in the many languages spoken by the children of Boyle Parochial.  Well done to everyone!!

Mother Nature has definitely made her presence known to us this school year!!  Storm Darragh caused interruption in December.  Since returning to school on January 6th we have had a snow closure and a storm closure.  Now that St. Brigid’s Day has arrived we hope for better days and look forward to spring.  The snowdrops have been in our garden since mid-January and we expect to see the window boxes (planted by the children in October), burst with colour before the end of February.

On February 18th we will hold a fundraiser for UNICEF. Watch this space!!

Welcome Back!

Our Autumn Term commenced on September 1st with a flourish of activity. We welcomed many new faces as the boy-girl balance at Boyle Parochial shifted quite a bit.

250th Anniversary of Boyle Parish Church

Our first ‘outing’ together was on October 1st. The children were invited to participate in the Service of Celebration at Boyle Parish Church marking its 250th anniversary. Their dramatization of The Parable of the Sower and rendition of ‘What Colour is God’s skin?’ were warmly received by a packed congregation.

Fred, The Party Professor

On October 3rd it was the turn of Fred, The Party Professor, to entertain the children. His Magical Musical Science Show was full of fun and surprises!!

Valiant Vikings

October brought an opportunity for the Senior Room students to enter the world of Vikings at King House. School was never so exciting!

The Dome

Fourth, Fifth and Sixth class students spent a day at The Dome, near Ballyhaunis for G.A.A skills-training. The training was intensive but there was also an opportunity to meet with some of the three hundred other students from the small schools of North Roscommon.

Science Week

Fourth, Fifth and Sixth class students participated in a science workshop at the Abbey Community College during Science Week.

Woodland Wander

The Heritage Council provided Third to Sixth class students with a chance to enjoy a Woodland Wander in November with Shailagh, a woodland specialist.

Artist in Residence

The theme of ‘Winter in Nature’ was further explored with Sophie Carroll-Hunt, our Artist in Residence. Mark-making and lino-printing were the emphasis of this month long project.

Christmas Cards

Winter has arrived and Christmas is around the corner. All children designed Christmas cards in support of the Garda Síochána appeal.

Along the way there has been reason to drink hot chocolate and relax! Now it is time for all to enjoy a happy and healthy break from routine.
